Maestro decision contract

How autonomous routing stays bounded and inspectable.

When the local Maestro runtime is running with live routing configured, Maestro asks Jev to choose from a locally computed list of eligible actions. Loading the $maestro skill in an AI host alone does not call Jev. The decision is a preference among safe options, not permission to bypass the workflow.

Guarantees

  • The candidate list comes from local project state.
  • Jev cannot introduce an unknown lane.
  • Malformed responses fail closed.
  • Timeouts and provider errors stop the run with an actionable error.
  • Successful runs persist the provider, decision ID, selected action, and evidence.
  • Failed requests persist provider_used: false; they are not evidence that Jev was used.

Offline tests

The deterministic provider is for explicit tests only:

MAESTRO_DECISION_PROVIDER=deterministic npm test
